Michigan State University: Bachelor of Fine Arts - Jazz Studies
Michigan State University: Masters of Fine Arts Jazz Studies
Born in Pinedale, Wyoming, Ryan Ptasnik demonstrated an interest in music, the drums in particular, at an early age. He had his first lessons with the great Ronnie Bedford and Raymond Pounds in middle and high school, fostering a curiosity that would later become a deep love of jazz and American Roots Music.
Ryan earned both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Jazz Studies at Michigan State University with the inimitable Randy Gelispie. Ryan is forever dedicated to the process of learning the instrument, the music, and the humanity at the core of it all. He is grateful and honored to have shared the bandstand with great artists spanning many genres and generations, including Dee Dee Bridgewater, Christian McBride, The Platters, Mulgrew Miller, and many others. Ryan recently relocated to Philadelphia, inspired to play with the city's great musicians and be a part of its vibrant artistic expression.
Ryan is excited about this new chapter in his own musical adventure, and is truly honored to work with the students and staff of The Music Workshop.
